Cardinal is a video and audio installation based on the anacdote Cardinal: my first caged bird, W. H. Hudson, Adventures Among Birds (J.M. Dent & Sons., 1924).
Cardinal, narrated by author of 'Savages and Beasts' Nigel Rothfels, David John Hathaway Rothfels and Jeff Motschman, recounts Hudson's childhood memory of owning, and losing, his first caged bird.
Cardinal was produced in conjunction with a collaborative project between the artist and Professor Nicola S. Clayton FRS, Professor of Comparative Cognition, Dept. of Experimental Psychology, Cambridge Univerity, where Bullard was Artistic Research Associate in Residence. The aim of this installation was to introduce a wider public to the idea of memory retrieval through sound. Cardinal was first shown at Cambridge Science Festival, 2011.
